Virginia Montiene Stokes, 58, of Claremont passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born September 2nd, 1963 in Rome, Georgia to the late Robert Wayne Prater Sr. and the late Helen Montiene Prater.
She is survived by her husband Bill Stokes; a daughter Sarah Stokes of Claremont; a son Chris Stokes of Hildebran; a grandson Gage of Fairbanks, Alaska; two brother's Robert "Rip" Prater and wife Ann Marie of Catawba and Reid Prater and wife Sonya of Newton; a sister, Suzy Milholland and husband David of Huntersville; and many nieces and nephews as well as cousins in North Carolina, Alabama, and Florida.
Ginger's love for kids led her to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught children at several day cares in Catawba County, her favorite being the the old Love-N-Care Child Development Center in Newton, North Carolina. Ginger also loved veterans. She was an active member in the disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary Chapter 34, and held several officer positions during her time spent there.
A Celebration of Life honoring Ginger will be Saturday, July 16th 2022, 11am at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 140 39th Ave. Place NE Hickory, N.C. 28601. Father Tryggvi 'Arnason will be officiating this memorial service.
A reception for the family will follow the service.
Caring Cremations staff is not involved in the memorial service at the church.
