Thomas Nichols

November 18, 1952 — December 4, 2023

Thomas Frederick Nichols, 71, of Maiden passed away Monday, December 4, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born November 18th, 1952 in Lansing, MI, he was the eighth child of Fred and Fern Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Lorne and Paul and sisters, Deanna and Carol. Left to remember him are siblings Nancy George of St. John's, MI, Liz Nochols of Lansing, MI, Dianne (Tony) Wenos of Sheboygan, WI Ray Miller of Williamston, MI, Tim (Judy) Nichols of Williamston, MI, and many nieces and nephews.

Thom graduated from Haslett Hight School in 1970 and went through the Iron Workers Apprenticeship Program. He was a proud member of the Iron Workers Local 25 of Detroit, MI for 51 years.

He was married to Peggy (Leach) Nichols on September 29, 1973, in Williamston, MI. They had four children: Brandon (Beth) Nichols of Stansbury Park, UT, Elliot (Jessica) Nichols of Monroeville, IN, Erika (Brian) Wilson of Maiden, NC, and Kevin (Brandy) Nichols of Maiden, NC. He was loving Papa to Adeline, Gabrielle, Eli, Jacob, Lucy, Levi, Elisha, and Oliver and used them as an excuse to keep candy in the house!

He was a fisherman and a fisher of men. He loved the Lord and wanted others to know his Jesus. He used his love of fishing to form many friendships over the years.

He was happiest when he was helping others whether it was building handicap ramps for Habitat for Humanity, working with teens at church, teaching Sunday school, cutting down trees at Winding Creek Camp, making canes, or baking cookies (some of the best you ever tasted). Thom never met a stranger and never lacked words for conversation or a good story! He will be missed!

A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM Friday, December 8, 2023, at Maiden Wesleyan Church at 1111 Ivey Church Road, Maiden, NC. There will be a visitation an hour before the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.

Memorials may be made to Habitat for Missions c/o Gary Crandall at 220 N. Douglas Street, Bronson, MI, 49023, or Winding Creek Camp c/o Peggy Nichols at 1807 Burke Lane, Maiden, NC 28650.
