Mickey Miller

Mickey Joe Miller, 77, of Hickory, North Carolina walked upright and independently into the arms of his Lord on October 6, 2023. He was an inspiration to many during his long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on June 4, 1946, to Garland Miller and Pauline Miller (Lail) in Conover, North Carolina. He was married 58 years to his wife, Edna Morgan Miller of Hickory, North Carolina with whom they raised their family. Family includes daughters, Amy Miller Sigmon of Hickory, North Carolina, Shellie Miller (Bumgarner) Khatod (husband, Neil Khatod) of Blackville, South Carolina, and Jodie Miller Kanipe (husband, Barry Kanipe) of Conover, North Carolina. Grandchildren include Emily Sigmon, Andrew (Drew) Bumgarner, Bret Bumgarner, Haleigh Kanipe, Alea Sigmon, Tanner Kanipe, and Callie Bumgarner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jane Cole and Carolyn Bumgarner.

He attended St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Conover, NC his entire life. It was there where he raised his family in the teachings of Christ. His servant heart led him to be an ever-present volunteer in the church. His servant heart, also, took him to the baseball fields of St. Stephens Optimist for many years. It was there where he poured himself into countless youth through volunteering to coach and doing whatever necessary to further the organization. He was always ready to help any kid or adult who came into his path. Many kids learned to swim from his instruction and patience. Many successful adults can lead life lessons back to the giving nature of Mick.

As a dedicated family man, Mick spent his life working as an upholsterer to provide a secure life for his family. He enjoyed most of his free time with his family. Camping trips, making amazing creations for his children and grandchildren, and providing the best place for gathering for his family was his passion. Second to his family was his passion for woodworking. All who knew him, were confident that he could fix anything that was put in front of him.

Mick continually taught those around him to “always leave a place better than you found it”. It can be said with confidence that Mickey Joe Miller left this earth as a better place than he found it.

A celebration of the life of Mickey Joe Miller will be held Sunday October 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Conover, North Carolina. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the church fellowship hall.
