John “Mike” Michael Robbins, 77, of Hickory, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Mike was born on October 13, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late John Peter Robbins Jr. and Lucy Jessica Hudson Robbins.
A 1965 graduate of Claremont Central High School, Mike went on to attend UNC Chapel Hill and the University of Charlotte, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Architecture degrees. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Mike was a talented and successful architect who took great pride in his work. Outside of his career, he had a deep love for music, art, and literature. He could often be found in downtown Hickory, playing music with his friends or participating in a bluegrass jam at the Drexel Barber Shop.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Alexis Michelle Robbins of Hickory, NC; Avery Michael Robbins of Cramerton, NC; Taylor MaKaylyn Robbins of Cramerton, NC; his sister, Phyllis Robbins Hefner and her husband Daniel of Winston-Salem, NC; his nephews, Nathan Heately of Powhatan, VA, and Morgan Hefner of Raleigh, NC; his niece, Hudson Heatley and spouse Jeni Klippel of Durham, NC; and his sister-in-law Sandy Robbins of Hickory, NC.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his sisters, Esther Robbins Heatley of Lexington, VA, and Mary Ann Robbins of Raleigh, NC; his brother, Stewart Robbins of Hickory, NC; and nephew, John “Rusty” Robbins of Hickory, NC.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at UNC Hospitals and Frye Regional Medical Center, as well as a special thank you to Dr. Richard Orlowski for his care and compassion.
Mike will be remembered for the way he made people laugh, his love for his family, the simple joys he found in life, and his dedication to hard work. He will continue to live on in the hearts of those who love him.
