Janice Illene Treffinger

Janice Illene Lunde Treffinger, 78, of Connelly Springs passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born March 12th, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Orlando Lunde and Olga Galstad Lunde.

Janice had a true passion for gardening, she could grow just about anything, from flowers and herbs to vegetables and trees. No matter where life took her, she left a little piece of herself behind in the form of a garden or a tree, and chances are, something she planted is still thriving today. She was also a book lover through and through. Her collection was filled with treasured reads, and she knew each book she owned. Gardening, cookbooks, biographies, and politics were among her favorite topics, and she was always eager to learn something new. Janice had a love for adventure and travel. She would pack up her car, hit the road, and let the journey unfold as she went. A master at reading maps, she never needed a set plan, sometimes, her travels would lead her to one of her children’s homes, always showing up with a surprise visit. She lived life with curiosity, spontaneity, and a deep love for the people and passions that filled her days.

She is survived by three daughters Tamara Hansen of Castalia, Iowa, Kelly Janah of Winterhaven, Florida, and Kristen Treffinger of Waukon, Iowa; and two sons Thomas Treffinger (Shana) of Parrish, Florida, and William Treffinger (Amber) of Raleigh, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her ten siblings.
