Jack Ely

Jack Randall Ely (“Randy”) joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 1st 2022 after a long and heroic battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Randy is survived by his sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Alana Sue Whitmoyer Ely. They have two sons, Scott (Lisa) from Goldsboro, NC and Rick (Dawn) from Hickory, NC. Their children blessed them with four wonderful grandchildren, Krystal, Kayla, Trevor and Trey. Randy also has a precious great-grandson, Miles. Randy lived life with zeal, which was at times, a challenge to understand and a risk to his well-being. But, the conflicts resolved into love and some of his adventures were resolved at the ER. In the end, God’s grace and his deep love for family always led him back to center. Randy’s memory would not be complete without mention of his special dogs, Lady and Mandy. He trained both dogs to be passengers on 2-wheel vehicles. Mandy would often accompany him on afternoon motorcycle rides as she sat confidently on her gas tank mat. Randy loved to mount his Goldwing motorcycle and head off to nowhere and return several days later excited about where he had been without being certain where he had been. He also loved the mountains and enjoyed taking the boys on long impromptu hikes around Grandfather Mountain. Randy and Alana shared a heart for wayward youth and demonstrated their commitment by working for several years as child-care workers in children’s homes for wayward minors.

Randy has 2 brothers: Don, and his wife Fran, in Port St. Lucia, FL and Jim (Chip) and his wife Lynda, in Warrenton, VA.

Randy’s love for God’s grace and man’s adventure will be greatly missed.
