Garry Russell

Garry Dale Russell, 65, of Hildebran passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at his home. Born September 10th, 1957 he was the son of Garland Lee Russell and the late Irene Wiles Russell. Garry attended Hildebran High School. After high school he served in the US Navy, where he developed a love and expertise for welding. He was a welder throughout his work career. He was also skilled at welding stainless steel. Some of his work was published in a magazine by a former employer for its excellence. Garry loved his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his loved ones. He had a heart for helping others!

He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Damron (Brian) of Hickory; two sons Chad Russell (Stephanie) of Kempton, PA and Clay Russell (Jennifer) of Ocean Springs, MS; his father Garland Russell of Hildebran; a very special friend Sue Evans of George Hildebrand; a sister Kathy Willis (Sonny) of Hildebran; a brother Scott Russell (Crystal) of Statesville; nine grandchildren Carleigh Russell, Grant Russell, Maddox Russell, McKenna Russell, Allison Russell, Haley Russell, Hudson Damron, Graham Damron, and Emery Damron; and a number of very special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Irene Wiles Russell; his paternal grandparents Fred and Mabel Russell; and his maternal grandparents Marvin and Grace Wiles.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Open Door Baptist Church (formerly Penelope Baptist Church) at 3310 Main Ave NW, Hickory, NC 28601.

The memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, immediately following the receiving, at Open Door Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Davis officiating the service.
