Edith Lorraine Helms Brown, 80, of Conover, passed away on September 1, 2024, at Catawba Valley Medical Center surrounded by family. Born on August 23, 1944, she was the beloved daughter of the late William Alexander Helms Sr. and Mamie Sarah Watts Helms.
Edith was a spirited and loving individual with a passion for BINGO, dominos, and her favorite TV shows. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she always looked forward to celebrating her birthday with enthusiasm. Her clear sense of what she liked and her deep affection for children endeared her to everyone who knew her. Edith will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love for family, and her zest for life.
She is survived by two daughters Sharron Scronce of Newton and Lisa Smith (Chip) of Hickory; her son Sheriff Donald Brown II (Jenny) of Newton; three sisters Doris Self of Hickory, Bobbie Baker of Hickory, and Phyllis Bost (George) of Hickory; a brother William Helms Jr. (Sandy) of Hickory; five grandchildren Sara Lane (Morgan) of Newton, Eric Scronce (Emily) of Maiden, Mason Webster (Monica) of Hickory, Jarrett Dale of Maiden, and Grayeson Brown of Newton; and two great-grandchildren Eleanor "Norrie" Lane and Nathaniel "Nate" Lane both of Newton.
In addition to her parents, Edith is preceded in death by her son-in-law Bradley Scronce.
A celebration of Edith's life will be 4:00 PM Friday, September 6, 2024, at Jenkins Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Watkins from Moriah Baptist Church officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM - 3:45 PM in the Celebration Center of Jenkins Funeral Home before the service.
