David Newton

David Paul Newton, 78, of Hickory passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at his daughter's home. Born June 14th, 1945 in Birmingham, England, he was the son of the late Paul and Dorothy Newton. He was born in Birmingham, England and came to the United States after the war. David was known for his caring and kind nature, always displaying humility and never crossing anyone. He was not only a dedicated professional but also the epitome of a loving father and grandfather, cherished by all who knew him. His warmth and gentle spirit touched the lives of many, making him not just a colleague or a neighbor but a true friend to all fortunate enough to know him.

David retired in 2012 from Shurtape Technologies, where he worked in the lab. His 49 years of service at Shurtape was a testament to his commitment and work ethic.

David is survived by his daughter Deborah Walker (Tim) of Bethlehem Community; eight grandchildren John Ellis (Kesha) of Conover, Tamara Weldon (Ryan) of Hickory, Misty Cascio (Jordan) of Hickory, and Jeff Ellis of Bethlehem Community, Desiree, Patrick, Paul, and Maxwell; six great-grandchildren Peyton Ellis, Reagan Carter, Macy Weldon, Raelyn Weldon, Addison Walker, and June Cascio; sister Dianne Devinney and a sister-in-law Doris "Dotttie" Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Newton; a son Paul "Andy" Newton; and a brother Stephen Harry Newton.

The funeral will be at 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. with John Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends beginning an hour before the service, from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the Celebration Center of Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658.
