Cindy Poovey

Cindy Louise Elliott Poovey, 73, of Hickory passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 4, 2023 after a short stay Care Partners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. Born November 15th, 1949 in she was the daughter of the late Ray Edwin Elliott and Dorothy Elliott. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, and then raised in Monclova, Ohio.

Supportive wife and loving mother and caregiver for all she knew raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as foster children. She enjoyed working with horses as a young woman in Ohio before moving to North Carolina at the age of 15. She met her husband and began a family being married in her soon-to-be brother and sister-in-law's living room in 1968. She had many jobs throughout her life including cleaning the house, making and serving meals, washing dishes, laundering clothes, kissing boo boo’s, educator, providing discipline, and being the accountant who balanced the budget for Poovey household. She was respected by many and loved by all.

She is survived by her four children Johnny Poovey Jr. (Kimberley) of Hickory, NC, Presley Poovey of Hickory, NC, Andrea Faircloth (Robert) (Step) of Anderson, SC, and Penny Clonch (Step) of Hickory, NC; two brothers Tom Elliott (Gloria Duncan) of Claremont, NC and Charles "Chuck" Elliott (Bernie) of Portland, OR; four grandchildren Chad Vaughan, Brandon Faircloth, Blake Faircloth, and Conner Poovey; eight great-grandchildren Jai’mie Vaughan, Keegan Vaughan, Carly Vaughan, Ayden Alewine, Carson Faircloth, Bryce Faircloth, Laney Faircloth, and Levi Faricloth; one great-great-grandchild KJ Vaughan; and her beloved dog Layah and cat Bella.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Poovey Sr; and four siblings Ginny Black, William "Bill" Elliott, Sandra Carpenter, and Tonja Cawley.

The Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at Crossroads Baptist Church at 2288 Zion Church Road, Hickory, NC 28602. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

The burial will be 11:00 am Monday, October 16th, 2023 at Eastview Cemetery at 23 South Brady Avenue
Newton, NC 28658.
