Charles Unangst

June 9, 1928 — April 22, 2023

Charles L. Unangst, 94, of Hickory passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Trinity Ridge. Born June 9th, 1928 he was the son of the late Charles and Frances Walters Unangst. He was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Charles retired as a crane operator from Bethlehem Steel after 40 years. He was a member of the Christ Church United Church of Christ in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where he was a member of the choir, the Dart League, Rubicon and the Peanut Makers. Charles was also a Bethlehem Senior Center Member, a Charter Member of the Burnside Plantation, and part of the Bethlehem Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed spending time working on crossword puzzles, traveling, playing the organ and playing the clarinet with Dick Kresge and his Orchestra. He loved watching Moravian football games and auto races at Nazareth. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Linda Long (Tom) of Hickory; four grandchildren Rebecca Zalit (Doug Stover), Catherine Tejada (Frankel), Michael Unangst, and Kristine Unangst; and seven great grandchildren Frankel Jr, Miles, Michael Jr., Levi, Nate, Jaxson, and Nova.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years Flora Kleppinger Unangst; and a son Mark Unangst.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday May 6, 2023 at James Funeral Home at 527 Center Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Calling Hour will begin at 10:30 AM.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region .
