Austen Richard Spaller, a quiet soul with a brilliant mind, sharp wit, and a loving heart, passed away on January 3, 2025 at the age of 34. Born and raised in Hickory, North Carolina, Austen was known for his dry sense of humor, his deep love for his family and friends, and his remarkable intelligence.

Austen graduated from Hickory High School in 2009. He continued his education at NC State University from 2009 to 2011, where his keen intellect and curiosity shone brightly.

Austen is lovingly remembered by his mother, Pamela “Pam” Burton, and her husband, Allen Burton, of Hickory, NC; his father, Charles “Chuck” Spaller, and his girlfriend, Adrienne Vieira, of Hickory, NC; his sister, Ashley Spaller Moose, and her husband, Andrew Moose, of Hickory, NC; his brother, Justin Spaller, and his wife, Heather Spaller, and their children, Colby, Corbin, and Carson, of Stony Point, NC; his brother, Jordan Spaller, and his husband, Dylan Bossard, of Charlotte, NC; his step-brother Keith Allen Burton III "Trey" of Kernersville, NC; his loving companion who shared many cherished moments with him, Leah Morton, of Denver, NC; and his beloved pit bull, Harley.

He also leaves behind a large extended family who cherished him dearly, including his aunts Pamela Edwards of Hickory, NC, Sheri Donovan and her husband, Darren Eggleston, and their son, Max Eggleston, of Westlake Village, CA, and Susan Eggleston and her husband, Brian “Beep” Eggleston, of Boston, MA, and their children, Kristin Bannon, Shauna Hamilton, and Jason Hamilton. His uncle, Richard Eansor, and cousin, Laura Bassette Eansor, of Hickory, NC, as well as his cousin, Pamela Pinsler, and her husband, David Pinsler, of Hickory, NC, also survive him.

Austen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bette and Harley Spaller, Monica “Micky” and Casmer “Cass” Juszczyk, and Richard J. Eansor. He was also preceded by his uncles, Jerry Edwards, Rex Spaller, and Harley Spaller.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Humane Society of Catawba County, reflecting Austen’s deep love for animals and his compassionate nature.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Jenkins Funeral Home - 4081 Startown Rd, Newton, NC 28658 - with a service to celebrate Austen’s life immediately following at 3:00 PM. All who knew and loved Austen are welcome to attend and honor his memory.
